About Alix North

Alix North believes that small businesses are the best opportunity for professional self-expression. As a writer, educator, and business consultant, she devotes her talents to helping independent professionals build and maintain the thriving, fulfilling businesses that they most want.

Having worked as an independent professional since 1993, she is intimately familiar with the challenges facing her fellow micro-entrepreneurs. Knowing that most professionals love the work they do—but not necessarily the "business of doing business"—she works to simplify the business development process while injecting a bit of adventure (and humor) into the process.

Because effective marketing is a critical component to small business success, Alix devoted extra effort to creating a new approach to the topic that makes it more accessible, human, and honorable. Through Marketing Without Shame, she's created a way for sensitive, integrity-minded professionals to promote themselves that feels good and appropriate...so that they can bring their much-needed gifts into the world.

At once a strategic, analytical thinker and a free-spirited artist, Alix excels at providing clients and students with fresh perspectives on business. She brings a light-hearted, warm, and gentle touch to each call, and is always listening to find just the right approach to make someone's path easier. Sessions with Alix are often rich with ideas, full of practical content, and laced with humor. Clients comment that they come away inspired with ideas and clear about their next steps to implementing them.

Alix lives, works, and makes art in the lovely city of San Francisco. She is the owner and operator of a number of diverse web sites, which she manages while Lola and Tilly (her two tabby cats) nap on her lap. Outside of her client work, she spends her days thinking up grand ideas, making pretty things, and daydreaming of her life as a pirate.
